W4502 WINCHESTER 1866 FORTH MODEL RIFLE IN 44 RF; 24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a slightly dark bore with strong rifling. Sights include a German silver blade front and sporting rear. Barrel and full length magazine tube are a dark brown with evidence of some touch-up and some small dents and scratches . Brass receiver has been polished long ago and has an even smooth patina forming and has two plugged holes for a saddle ring staple. This rifle was made from a surplus Model 1866 SRC receiver. Tight fitting side plates. Upper tang has a 1/4 inch threaded hole that appears to be for a tang sight. Hammer and lever are dark brown. Loading gate is a dark blue. Smooth functioning action. Straight grain walnut stocks have been sanded and restored and have some dings and impressions. Steel rifle style buttplate and forend cap are correct for this late Forth Model rifle that was made in 1880.
