Description
W4392 ANTIQUE WINCHESTER IN 30 WCF; A “Frankenchester” may be what best describes this gun. It currently has an Eastern Carbine profile having a 20 inch round “94” marked Nickel Steel Carbine Barrel with a Pinned blade Front and Folding Ladder Rear Sights. Full Length Magazine. Antique Serial Numbered Receiver without a Saddle Ring equipped with Double Set Triggers and a Crescent Rifle Butt Plate. Very good bore is bright and fairly shiny with strong rifling. All metal surfaces have the finish polished off leaving a dull gray patina over various surface conditions from forging striations, polishing/sanding lines, handling marks to scattered residual pitting. The upper tang appears to have been welded back on. There are no Proof Marks on the barrel. The forearm has a crack on the left front near the bottom, a small carving on the left side near the receiver as well as other wear and handling marks. The Buttstock is solid and full fitting with typical wear and handling marks. Factory research form shows it was originally made in 1898 as a Rifle with a Round Barrel chambered in 30 WCF and a Plain Trigger. It has been brought back to life as this hybrid “Antique 1894/94 Eastern Carbine” with rare and desirable double set triggers.
ANTIQUE $ 2,775.
Others would have left it for dead, but not The Winchester Collector who proudly proclaims, “I have some parts laying around, I think I can save it!” and so it lives on as a “Frankenchester”
