Description

MR1699 PHILADELPHIA HALFSTOCK SILVER-MOUNTED PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE; 34 inch octagon barrel chambered in about a .38 caliber with a very good bright shiny bore. Barrel is mostly a plum/brown color and is marked “AZB Phila da” in fancy script. Sights include a thin German silver blade front and flattop V-notch rear. Appears to have the original ramrod. The lockplate and dolphin head hammer are a smoky gray patina with lovely scrollwork throughout. Set trigger. Lots of decorative silver-plated brass furnishings. There is a large arrow piercing a heart along the bottom of the forend. Double spur trigger guard. Large embellished patchbox on the right side with a smaller patchbox on the left. The barrel is affixed in a double key arrangement. Walnut stock has some wide checkering with punched crosses along the wrist and a left side cheekpiece. It is in very fine condition with an antique varnish that shows a few small drying cracks. Crescent buttplate with a long comb line and full length toe plate with three pierced ovals and a small compartment that contains a spare nipple. A very ornate percussion rifle!
