W4707 WINCHESTER MODEL 1890 RIFLE RE-CHAMBERED TO 22LR; 24 inch threaded octagon barrel that has been re-chambered to 22 Long Rifle caliber with a very good shiny bore. The barrel was originally marked “22 Short” but has been re-chambered to 22 LR and the “Short” has been struck out. Right side of the barrel and frame are marked with British acceptance proofs including “(crown)” over “BV”, “BP”, and “NP”. Sights include a hooded post front with a replaced sporting rear with a Lyman combination tang sight. The metal surfaces have some traces of blue with the balance toned to a mottled brown and mixing with areas of light surface oxidation. The walnut buttstock is from a Model 1906 and looks good with what appears to be original varnish and several dings, handling marks, a few small chips. The grooved forearm is missing its retention screw on the left side. Hard rubber buttplate. Miss matched serial numbers on the front end and the back end. The gun functions correctly. I have cycled and fired several rounds of 22 LR through it. So it does work fine. Not the prettiest gun but will be an affordable shooter. Made in 1905.
