W4228 DELUXE WINCHESTER 1873 ENGRAVED “LIKE ONE OF ONE THOUSAND” IN CALIBER 44-40; 24 inch octagon barrel and full length mag tube. Sights include a globe front sight, sporting rear sight and a tang mounted graduated peep sight. Good bore. Barrel and mag tube retains a good amount of original blue with some freckling, wear and some pitting. Silver band has aged to a dark patina. The like one of one thousand embellishments make this rifle stand out with Ulrich scroll engraving on most of the frame, muzzle and at the breech, around the thumb print on the dust cover and on the cartridge elevator. The right side has a circular panel scene showing a running stag. Factory Letter shows this as $4.50 engraving. Nice case color on the receiver, lever and hammer as well as on the professionally refinished side plate. There is faint traces of an inscription on the side plate. The wood is also very nice with crisp checkering, attractive figure and grain and crescent trapdoor buttplate that holds a cleaning rod. Wood shows just some handling and storage marks, a few small chips, and some scrapes on the right side of the wrist. Crisp action. A beautiful factory engraved 1873 that comes complete with a Factory Letter.
