W4019 WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 FACTORY ENGRAVED GOLD INLAID IN DESIRABLE CALIBER 405; 24 inch tapered round barrel. 4-leaf express flip up rear and a Lyman beaded blade front sight. Fine bore. Take down frame. The animals and the border are definitely John Ulrich’s work. On one side of the frame is a gold inlaid tiger and leopard. On the other is a gold inlaid Bear. There is a lot of gold line work. The typical Ulrich style hearts on the border. The background scrolls I believe were done by Stokes. Not uncommon for two engravers to work together. Barrel retains most all thinning blue. The receiver has about 50% thinning blue. Fitted with a “B” style carved stock measuring 14-1/2 inches to the end of the hard rubber buttplate. Wood is in very good condition. Shows a little wear to the carving but still retains half of the original lacquer. Mechanically excellent. Engraved Model 1895’s are very rare and this one was made in 1913. This is one for the advanced Winchester collector!
