W2449 WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SPECIAL ORDER SHORT RIFLE IN 50 CALIBER; Special order 22 inch round barrel chambered in the desirable 50-95 Express caliber and half length magazine. Features a bright shiny near excellent bore. Sights include a blade front with an “1876” marked folding ladder rear. Barrel is mostly a dark plum/brown color and has British Proof marks present. Receiver has 50-60% blue starting to turn plum as well. Nice crisp action. Correct Express marked dust cover shows some light pitting and re-blue. Walnut stocks show some wear and a light coat of lacquer added at one time and a repair where the frame and stock meet. Steel shotgun buttplate. Factory Letter of Authenticity states features but does not mention the 22 inch barrel length. Rifle features the correct shorter forearm length. The 22 inch round barrel was the most common length of the 3,284 rifles manufactured. As 1,196 of them had 22 inch round barrels in the 50 Express caliber. Should still be a good shooter from 1881.
