MR1690 SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CARTRIDGE CONVERSION CARBINE; 22 inch round barrel chambered in 50-70 Govt. caliber with 3-groove rifling that shows some light pitting and good rifling. This carbine was manufactured for use in the Civil War and then converted and relined with 3-groove rifling after the war. Barrel is a brown patina with a blade front and a modified Lawrence patent rear sight. Casehardened frame is also a brown/gray patina showing heavy overall wear and a cracked upper tang with a screw in place of the lever pin. Walnut stocks are show dings and handling mars with a chip by the upper tang. There were about 60,000 New Model 1863 Carbines manufactured between 1863-1865.
