MHG603 HOPKINS & ALLEN “CZAR” MODEL SPUR TRIGGER REVOLVER; This revolver comes in a case with a pearl scaled pocket knife and a copy of Lee Silva’s book “Wyatt Earp A Biography of the Legend”.
Gun is in good condition with about 60% nickel remaining. A good amount of gold wash remains on the cylinder. 3-1/2 inch octagon barrel and checkered hard rubber grips. The left grip has a crack and a small piece missing at the frame. Right grip is faded to a more brown color. Action is crisp and tight. The case is good overall with some fading to the lining and missing the key-hole cover plate. Lid has a dented compression line and a brass plaque with no inscription. The 2-blade knife is in good condition as well and one blade has the maker’s mark ” John Watt Sheffield England”.
Lee Silva is considered one of the leading authorities on Wyatt Erp. On page 463 is a photo of an engraved Czar revolver that was given to Wyatt Erp’s love interest, Josephine. We can only speculate that this little gem may have also belonged to Josephine or some other companion. We will never know but it is fun to think of the possibilities.
