JM1589 MARLIN BALLARD No. 8 UNION HILL SINGLE SHOT RIFLE IN CALIBER 38-55 [A]

$4,950.00

30 inch part round part octagon barrel. Sights include a Redfield globe front with aperture insert, no rear sight dovetail and a Mid-range vernier peep sight mounted behind the hammer. Color case hardened lever operated action with double set triggers. Diamond checkered walnut forearm with matching pistol grip buttstock featuring a cheek rest and fit with a Swiss style butt plate. Near excellent condition overall with barrel retaining about 80% original blued finish with light freckling. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny with sharp well defined rifling. The action locks up tight with working set triggers and retains about 90% original case colored finish with some old very mild surface oxidation and one thin scuff along the left side. The buttstock and forearm show about 90% original finish, the top edge of the buttstock against the action showing a few old thin cracks, more minor than is usually seen, and just a few other sparse dings. The checkering is crisp and the fit very fine. Buttplate appears to be finished in silver showing moderate flaking with lightly cleaned oxidation. This is an attractive  Ballard that appears to have seen little actual use.
