MHG1122 J.P. SAUER & SOHN DOUBLE BARREL PISTOL IN 25 ACP; The J.P. Sauer & Sohn Bär (Bar) pistol is a rare compact four shot double-barrel pocket pistol with a square 4-chamber block. Each pull of the trigger causes an upper and lower firing pin to be actuated in sequence. The fold down double action trigger allows the firing of two rounds each time it is pulled. Pressing a lever on the top of the pistol allows the four chamber block at center to be rotated in a circular manner and the ability to fire the remaining two chambers. Rotating the block half way allows reloading or removal of the block from the frame. The gun features 2 1/2 inch barrels chambered in 25 ACP caliber with bright shiny bores that show a few spots of light roughness with strong rifling throughout. The top of the barrel is marked “Bär Pistol.” Sights include a blade front and a notch rear. The chamber block is marked “Deutschland, 98382 PATENT”, and on the other side: “Belgien 134215, England, Russia and North America.” The metal surfaces retain most all of the original bright blue with some scattered areas of oxidation. The checkered walnut grips are in fine condition but the left one has a small chip at the toe. The removable ejector rod is present and the action seems to function correctly. These were manufactured in Germany between 1899-1914. Fewer than 300 of these unique pistols were ever produced thus making them highly sought after collector’s items today. Hard to find in any condition and this one is not too bad.
