Color case hardened third model receiver, lever, hammer, forearm cap, and crescent rifle trapdoor buttplate show about 75% original color case hardened finish. Brass cartridge carrier is marked “38 CAL” and has toned to a pleasing butterscotch patina. High gloss piano finish 3X walnut checkered deluxe pistol grip buttock with matching forearm show only light wear and handling marks. The left side of the lower tang is marked with assembly number “1009”, “XXX” for 3X grade stocks and “38” for 38 Caliber barrel. The stock is marked with “38” and assembly number “1009” in upper tang mortise and the back of the buttplate is also marked with assembly number “1009”. Comes with a factory letter showing it was manufactured in 1887 as Type: Rifle, Caliber: 38 with Barrel type: octagon, Trigger: plain, Checkered Stock, Pistol grip, Sights: Mid-range Vernier and Wind gauge, Casehardened for order number 23670. Exceptionally fine all numbers matching with featured sights documented on Factory letter.
