MR1731 FRANK WESSON SECOND TYPE SINGLE SHOT RIFLE IN 44 RF; 24-1/8 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a bright shiny excellent bore. Most all original barrel blue remains with sharp corners and clear markings. Sights include a blade front and a notch rear. Provisions for a sling swivel on the bottom of the barrel with a blank in the stock for the rear swivel. Receiver has most blue remaining with some thinning and wear at the carry point. Hammer has some case colors present. Walnut stock is in fine condition with an attractive grain pattern. There is a very small chip out of the lower left front corner of the wrist. Crescent buttplate. This is a very nice looking example of a Second Type Two-Trigger rifle that was manufactured between 1863-1875 by Frank Wesson.
