W4442 ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 SRC IN 38-56 WCF; 22 inch round barrel carbine configuration chambered in 38-56 WCF caliber with a very good bright shiny bore. Barrel and full length magazine tube are a mostly gray patina with traces of blue in the protected areas. Sights include a pinned beaded blade front with a folding ladder rear and a period modified peep sight on the upper tang. Casehardened receiver has some good traces of color around the saddle ring on the left side of the frame with the balance a gray patina. Hints of color on the hammer and lever. Crisp functioning action. Walnut forearm and lightly sanded buttstock are in good condition. Stock has a notch removed from the comb to accommodate the modified tang sight. The .38-56 WCF cartridge was offered in the Model 1886 from 1887 to 1909. It is estimated that there are only between 6,200 and 8,000 Winchester Model 1886 carbines manufactured. According to research done by John Madl there were only 652 Model 1886 SRC’s chambered in this caliber. They are considered scarce and difficult to find in any condition. This one was made in 1894.
