W3695 WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 DELUXE HI-WALL RIFLE IN CALIBER 32-40; 30-3/4 inch No.4 octagon barrel chambered in 32-40 caliber which has no doubt been shorted at some time in its life. Bright shiny excellent bore. Sights include a windage adjustable front sight, blank in the rear barrel slot and an of the period Vernier short range tang sight. Tapped and fitted with scope mounts. Barrel has turned a plum color with traces of blue in protected areas. Receiver has about 15-20% case color remaining that are turning nickel color. Gun was modified by a well known Western single shot enthusiast of the day by the name of J N Philips of Sacramento. His mark is stamped on the left flat of the barrel. Checkered fancy deluxe wood shows some use with a considerable amount of original varnish. It has the bracket for a palm rest. Also tapped on the end of the barrel with 4 holes for a bullet starter. This one has had the prongs cut off of the Schuetzen buttplate leaving it looking like a rifle buttplate. A heavy gun weighing over 12 pounds. This is a pretty decent gun and should make a great shooter.
