MR1638 WW2 RUSSIAN MOSIN NAGANT TULA M44 CARBINE W/ BAYONET IN 7.62x54R; “1944” dated round-receiver rifle made at the TULA factory with 20-1/2 round barrel chambered in 7.62x54R caliber. A good bore that would benefit from a good cleaning that has been counterbored. The Soviet Union counterbored worn muzzles to recess the crown to a point where the lands are still sharp. This was done to improve accuracy without the expense of shortening the barrel or rebarrelling the rifle. Original open sights. Most all blue is remaining. All numbers matching. 5 round box magazine floorplate has been force-matched. The M44 has a permanently attached side-folding 15 inch cruciform bayonet. Solid birch stock is in good condition with a few scrapes and bruises but looks good. An R GUNS Import. Original cleaning rod is present. Nice functioning action. Tula only produced 100,000 of these in 1944. A nice example of a Russian M44 carbine.
