MR1651 U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE WITH ROUND BAYONET; 32-1/2 inch round barrel chambered in 45-70 caliber with a bright bore and strong rifling. Pleasing even brown patina on barrel shows minor erosion toward breech. A few proof marks at breech. Original sights including the correct Buffington rear sight. Original round bayonet. Good triggerguard blue with traces of original case colors still visible on breech block. All sling swivels present. Good looking wood possibly freshened long ago with a few minor scratches, including one through the cartouche. Arsenal marking number 45 on rear right stock and upper buttplate adds a nice bit of history. Minor pitting on sideplate. Otherwise all other markings are nice and clear. Solid gun with crisp mechanics. Good old honest gun!
